Abstract=Level: 1          Length: 2 hrs.          Focus: Introduction                                                                                        Have you ever read about ATM in a trade journal and been overwhelmed by the flurry of acronyms? In this presentation we will examine the basics of ATM and define such terms as UNI, NNI, VPI, VCI, PVC, SVC, ILMI, AAL, LANE, MPOA, and more. Concentrating mainly on ATM as it pertains to campus networking, we will compare and contrast ATM with frame-based technologies such as Ethernet and define some of the schemes used to successfully intertwine ATM with legacy networks. Finally, we will explore some of the facets of ATM with regard to QoS and traffic management.
